Orange mold is one of the somewhat rare kinds of mold that, however, can be found almost anywhere including wood, tiles, and food.

Orange mold in your home means that there may be a leakage or standing water and that you need to immediately take action against it.

Mold occurs when there is excessive moisture and/or plenty of organic matter to feed on.

Although green and black mold is a more common household sight, an orange mold is also a thing of domestic walls and bathrooms and it looks equally disgusting.

What Does Orange Mold Look Like?

Orange mold, unlike black mold, occurs initially as small spots of orange and it does not look like cotton.

Orange mold is more slimy than velvety, and it looks much worse than black mold.

Moreover, orange mold does not change color as it matures, unlike black mold that attains a darker color.

Why Does Orange Mold Occur?

As said earlier, mold occurs wherever there is moisture, humidity and organic matter to feed on.

In most cases, an orange mold is found growing next to black and green mold and hence, it is no different than any other mold in terms of growth and spreading.

It can grow on wood, tiles, bathroom and even foods such as cheese, yogurt, and bread etc.

Is it Dangerous?

The only good thing about orange mold is that it does not cause any far-fetched health consequences and it is somewhat benign in its health risks.

If you have a weak immune system or have less tolerance towards certain allergens, there is a high chance that exposure to orange mold can cause respiratory infections and coughing.

However, it is still less catastrophic than black mold, but it spreads in colonies and can ruin the structure of your house.

Mold can penetrate deep into the walls and wooden structure of your house hence making it weaker alongside reducing its market value.

It may also grow inside water taps and pipes and if you drink tap water like most Americans, it can ruin the taste of your drinking water.

Furthermore, it is much more dangerous to be exposed to orange mold through the water you drink.

This kind of direct exposure is more consequential and must be realized immediately.

How to Get Rid of Orange Mold?

The first step is always to be careful and avoid its growth. One of the most important steps in this regard is to keep your bathroom and kitchen dry.

Mold grows wherever there is plenty of moisture and hence you should play your part by keeping your sink, shower cabinet and tiles dry at all times.

Another very important step is to flush properly after everting use because any deposit inside the toilet bowl can initiate a bacterial activity that results in mold growth.

If however, you find mold growing in your bathroom, it can very easily be removed using a vinegar and water solution.

Simply soak a towel in the solution and wipe off the mold.

You can also use a water purifier on your water taps to filter the water that may be infected by mold.
